After Mother Nature rained out our first attempt, we thought we’d give it a second try. What a difference a week can make! This time around, we had no wind, no rain and perfect cloud cover for our Engagement Session. We started out taking photos beside a neat old tractor. The clouds had a lot of detail in them, making for some really dramatic shots. We then headed toward the corn maze, making a quick pit stop at the farm mural, for some fun snaps of Julie and Tyler sticking their heads through some hole cutouts. The corn maze started out a little mucky, but got progressively wetter and muddier as we ventured in deeper. By the time we had made it to the first outlook bridge, our shoes were holding a few extra pounds of mud on them. After snapping some shots around the bridge, we worked our way back toward the entrance. Luckily, Tyler lead us out with no wrong turns or dead ends. We ended off the session by stopping by a neat old barn. We were greeted by a barking dog, who pestered us for a good 10 min or so. We managed to get some good shots with the barn as our backdrop. It was a fun morning, spent with two great people! We are very excited to photograph Julie and Tyler’s Wedding in May of 2012.

After photographing Michelle & Pieter’s Engagement session in June, we knew that they would be a lot of fun on their Wedding Day. After spending a few minutes with this couple, anyone would see that they are truly in love! The days leading up to the Wedding, were not very promising… weather wise. It was cold, rainy and damp. The forecast for the Wedding Day, jumped back and forth all week between rain, showers, cloudy, partly cloudy and back to rain. We totally lucked out on the Wedding Day and were blessed with clouds and only a few showers. In a Photographer’s world, clouds are one of the best conditions to photograph in. We had a lot of laughs and met some very funny friends of Pieter’s, who made the trip from Holland. We want to wish the Monsters a very happy and healthy life together.

A new blog post is long over due, so here goes….
We had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful family on Thanksgiving Monday. I had prayed for clouds the night before and woke up to sunshine. I was a little disappointed because sun is not my favourite condition to work in. As the day rolled on, the clouds became thicker and by the time we started the photo session, the entire sky had become overcast. If only some of my past prayers had been answered like this one.
The Lamb boys, who we photographed only a few years ago, have grown so much! They were just as cute as we remembered and were dressed in white shirts and blue jeans (A.K.A. “the white team”). The Reid boys, who we met for the first time that day, were dressed in bright orange shirts, blue jeans (A.K.A. “the orange team”) and matched the fall colours perfectly. The four boys were so cute and fun to photograph!
We managed to snap a lot of neat shots in and amongst the fall colours. The only down part of our session came when we tried to snap a quick photo of Grandpa and the four boys on one of the greens. We tried to time it out so that we didn’t get in the way of any golfers. Unfortunately, in the two minutes that it took to snap a few quick shots, a rude golfer, yelled at all of us and told us to get off the green. Had he been ready to make his shot, we would have gladly moved, but he was only out to cause trouble. Had the young boys not been around, I’m sure a few of us would have had some choice words for the golfer!
The session ended with some really cute close ups of the boys making funny faces and being, well… just boys!

Last night, Cara and I decided to venture out into the cold, snowy weather and snap a few quick shots of her in her Wedding dress. It was extremely cold, but we managed to tough it out for a few minutes. Trying to set up the scene and think of exposure, camera settings, flash placement etc, is not easy when all you can think about is keeping warm. It was awesome to see my wife in her wedding dress again! It brought back some wonderful memories and I think she looks just as beautiful as the day I married her. We are going to attempt this again in the near future.. as long as we get a milder evening to work with. We are very excited to photograph the winner of our Winter Trash the Dress contest. Hopefully soon, we will get that one perfect day to get out and snap a few neat photos. Stay tuned for teasers when they become available.

I have been patiently waiting for the first snowfall of the season, but lately, my hope for a white Christmas has quickly faded. That is, until last night! Snowsqualls started setting up off of Lake Huron late yesterday afternoon and happened to form in a perfect line through London and down to our little town of Brownsville. Although we haven’t got hit as hard as London, we have still managed to receive over 30cm of snow so far.
The snowsquall has been shifting from west to east throughout today, so it snows quite hard for awhile when we are directly under it and then lets up as the squall moves away from us. This pattern is suppose to continue until tomorrow evening, so we could still be in for another few rounds of heavy snow.
We managed to get outside and take a few pics of our puppy “Daisy” playing in the snow. She absolutely loves winter!
I’m pumped and very excited to get out and shoot some winter photo shoots. Time to start thinking about booking your sessions before it’s too late!

It’s that time of year again! If your looking for a wonderful gift idea for a friend, family member, boss or a co-worker….. why not give them a Pottelberg Photography gift card? They come in any denomination and have no expiration date. A lot of people talk about getting their family professionally photographed, but never actually go through with it. You will you be supporting both a local photography business and giving the ultimate gift to someone you care about.
